It definitely is not matte, but I would not describe it as glossy. The downgrade to β€œ3” comes because of the fit. The notch at the top of the screen is actually OK as it’s tailored to follow the notch on the screen when the phone is turned on. I would advise having the screen β€œon” during installation to help with alignment. The protector first of all very hard to align and second the notch cut out is not cut properly. I would say wait out for the better protectors that are actually made with the real iphone x dimensions.
