I have a very old John Pike and it is quite difficult to get the lid off.** A: It is difficult to remove the lid even doing as suggested. Seems my fingers are not strong enough and I struggle to remove. **Q: How many paint wells does it have? I can't tell from the photo whether the hidden side has paint wells.** A: The 1st John Pike palette I bought had 20 wells.The second one I purchased with large wells for large brushes has not arrived yet, but was advertised as having 18 wells despite the fact when I looked at the image it appeared to have 20. **Q: Do paints mix easily on the palette or do they bead up?** A: When it is brand new, watercolor beads up. This is very temporary and resolves after a few times of wiping off the paint. To avoid it altogether, put a little baking soda on a paper towel and "scour" the surface where you mix your paints. Rinse well. Ready to go. It's a great palette! **Q: is this palette small well** A: This is the small well palette with wells approximately 1" breadth and 1 1/2" width. The corner wells are 1 1/2"width at the front and 2 3/4 width at the back and 1" breadth. The big well palette is approximately 1 1/4" breadth and 1 3/4" width. The corner wells are 1 1/4" squares.
