This device uses regular 9v battery (comes with it). You can use any rechargeable 9v battery. But, before you buy this device, I need to let you know that I find it to be no so accurate. The numbers keep jumping up and down, in high values, making the device useless. It has a way to lock on the max value, but does not show the real time number. I am going to send the supplier an email asking them if this is expected. I used to have an analog one, and it showed some small/ minute variation in readings, but still manageable. I bought this digital device, because I thought I can get a better, accurate reading. The only point to note that is not well explained in the manual is if you want to store a reading then it will not do so in MAX, AVG or MAX AVG mode. Either when you first power on OR if you are in one of those modes when you press the Max/Avg button for a couple of seconds it clears back to instantaneous reading you can then store the value.
