It requires infinite care and patience coupled with an ability to repair accidental breakages. The degree of detail is excellent The real difficulties arise when fitting sails and rigging. This is best done where possible in advance of fitting to the masts .If any parts are lost or broken, replacements are obtainable from Revell free of charge. This is a beautiful model for those who know how to approach such complexity. Needs well developed organisational ability and dexterity. Be prepared to take your time - LOADS of time! **Q: Without the bow sprit, how long is just the hull?**
A: 26 inches. That is from the very front of the bow( where the bow sprite rests on) to the stern. That piece sticks out about 1 1-2 inches from the extreme end of the foredeck

**Q: what scale is this model?**
A: 1:96 698 parts

**Q: Where can I find the wood model of this ship?**
A: Check your local area hobby shops or go on line, enter wooden ship models to find what you want.

**Q: Do the instructions include the option to rig without using the sails?**
A: It does not include an option on the sails. But the sails go on last and this is your model. So if you don’t want to put on the sails it will still look fine.  Make whatever adjustments that you want. Have fun and let your creative side direct you. One word of caution, the deck comes in three sections. Make double sure you have the center section going the proper way.  I goofed and put it in backwards. I have been paying for this mistake all the way. Read the instructions very carefully and do a dry fit before applying the glue.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cutty Sark - flawed but still impressive

I built this model 50 years ago, and there is no doubt that it’s showing its age. There is the expected flashing to clean up but in fairness it still looks mighty impressive. Assembly was quite good with key parts fitting together well. Although it’s a grand size there are still some extremely fiddly pieces which will test every inch of your patience. The down side is really in 2 main areas - instructions which are sometimes vague and occasionally downright misleading, and the rigging threads which come with the kit are horrible, especially the thicker thread for the standing rigging. This has a slightly plasticky feel and comes on a star shaped reel which puts kinks into the thread, and the amount of pull needed to Straighten out a rigging stay has the effect of slackening the others. Eventually I binned this thread and bought some cotton thread on an ordinary reel which worked perfectly. I’ve still got a lot of work before the rigging finished but it will be magnificent when finished. One final moan - in their wisdom Revell have decided to include those nasty moulded plastic shrouds which couldn’t look more unnatural if they tried. Surely a model of this size deserves a more authentic approach! Having said all that it’s a challenging build and the final result is worth the effort.
