The thicker tube goes into the bottom of the tool. Not the rubber sleeved end. Pull back on the little ring at bottom of tool when you insert thicker hose. I fumbled a bit myself. **Q: does anyone know the capacity of the canaster and diameter size of the tube in inches?** A: The capacities are given on the details given. **Q: How to attach provided plastic hose to the pump?** A: Push in the small white ring at the bottom and insert wide clear hose. Used so far in many jobs from brake fluid flushes to supercharger oil changes. Works great with oil, brake fluid, coolant, gear oil, transmission fluid, powersteering fluid and, differential oil. Definitely takes the mess out of most jobs, whether you are extracting, or putting fluid in. Don't use to on gasoline however, since gasoline will swell the o-rings and cause the plunger to get stuck.
