**Q: Is the letter like a stick on or is it stitched into the bag?**
A: Good question! I bought two bags. Both as part of birthday gifts and both in early June, yet to be delivered to recipients.
The letter is neither stitched or stuck on.
It appears to be some sort of rubberized application to the outer face only of the bag?
It looks to be waterproof and is ingrained with the Jute fabric of the bag. 
That's about it!

**Q: Is initial on both sides**
A: The initial is only on the one side , same side as the bow/ ribbon is facing.
