It seemed all I was doing was fixing flats, throwing away tubes and I was starting to dread getting on my bike - another flat today? I read about these and researched a lot of reviews and finally decided to take the plunge. I am SO glad I did. 3 years later NOT ONE SINGLE FLAT, even in serious sticker country like New Mexico. The tires are definitely on the heavy side and I added almost 2 lbs to the weight of my bike but it is well worth it since now I don't even think about flats anymore. I can't bring myself to not carry an extra tube and a pump but I could easily have NOT carried those for all this time and never had a problem. I find the tires ride fine, no particular difference in feel vs standard road tires, and I have tried all the top brands. The durability is outstanding - I am easily getting twice the tread life out of these than any tire I have ever used. The 700 x 25 is pretty low profile once mounted and inflated so it keeps my road bike looking like a road bike. I found mounting was much easier if I used a cord to tie the tire securely to the rim at one point then work my way around - very stiff and the tire would inevitably pop off at the critical moment before I used the tying down method. After that it went on pretty easy. The massive payoff though is the complete cessation of flat tires. I will gladly put up with a little extra weight (with no noticeable sacrifice in performance) for the peace of mind of being able to ride anytime anywhere without the specter of flat-fixing looming over the trip. 5 stars all the way for me - I will NEVER put a regular tire back on my bike. Review: Really quiet and comfortable tire - I installed three of these 20X1.75'" tires on a Catrike Villager recumbent e-trike. Now installation requires a little experience but once mastered is not that hard. The secret is lube and SQUEEZE. Just a few drops of dish soap in a glass of water, brushed liberally on the tire bead with a brush. Getting the first bead of the tire on the rim just requires a little pushing with your thumb AFTER LUBING. Then install the tube, inserting the valve thru the rim hole and stuffing the tube into the open side of the tire. Then, after lubing the bead again, insert the tire into the other side of the rim, starting with the valve and working around the rim on both sides. No tire irons are required but can be used. You will be able to get all but about the last 12", opposite the valve in pretty easily. Then it gets difficult. Now listen up... SQUEEZE the sides of the tire along the entire seated portion to move the beads into the center of the rim, not on the bead area. Then pushing/rolling with your thumbs get more of the bead into the rim. Then repeat, SQUEEZE and push. A little more will go in. Now for the final 6", SQUEEZE again to ensure that all the bead in in the center of the rim, lube the final area gain , and grasping the tire with your hands, roll the rest into place. Don't just use your thumbs, grasp the tire and roll it over the rim away from you. You are actually twisting the tire over the last portion of the rim. That is it. Takes a little practice, but if you do not do the SQUEEZE part it is almost impossible. With it, it's pretty easy. You see, the center part of the rim is smaller in diameter than the bed grooves, get the bead into that and it will go on. If you don't, it won't. BTW I have Marathons on my bike now, no problems and not too difficult to mount. **Q: I'm trying to decide between these and the Schwalbe Marathon HS420 tires. Anyone have experience with both and would the SMP be worth the extra $23?** A: I just used the Schwalbe HS (32mm) on a tour of Iceland. On-road, off-road, ice storm, rain, no problems took a lot of abuse, fast and comfortable. 1200 miles and not a single puncture. **Q: Which size would work on a 27x1 1/4 rim?** A: Only 27 1 1/4 will work on a 27 1 1/4 rim. 700c won't fit because it is too small. To fit 27 1 1/4 you might also try searching "Schwalbe ISO 630". **Q: Is this the HS 440 model or 348?** A: Does not have a model number on the sidewall and unfortunately I cannot recall if the packaging on the tire identified model but I believe I checked to see they were 440's.
