Review: Be willing to work at it and expect a great outcome. - First of all let me just say right up front. I am 72yrs old and yes I have used this product and my review is my honest opinion. No one has offered me anything for my opinion and I do not have an agenda for giving my option. It is honest and true. That being said I will tell anyone who wants to know. I have read some of the positive and some of the negative reviews. Ther is a lot of truth in both. Except where someone who has been lazy and down right negative from the start. Does this product have a strong odor? Yes yes yes it definitely does. Is this product easy to use? Let me say this. If you are afraid of a little hard work and just plain lazy you need to look else where. But if you want a nice looking clean looking outcome and dont mind the work then this is your product. I have just finished my second tub unit. First I researched this product throughly last year before Thanksgiving. I have a own ŵhouse that was built in 1986 that was my mom's. It's mine now. I have done a lot of work in it and wanted to do something in the bathroom with the fixtures. The tub unit was original the toilet and sink had been replaced with white. The tub was that brown color and was faded looking. I didn't want the expense to replace it so I looked at options. That's how I found the Rustoleum tub and tile gloss white finish. The price was right and I was willing to get my hands dirty and work hard. Let me just say right here. A negative mind produces a negative out come. ALWAYS. I was skeptical to say the least. Do I expect this to be a job that will last 50yrs? No i do not. Do I expect this finish to look like a factory produced new unit? No I donot. Now right down to the truth. Starting out with a dark color going to an expected white finish I knew was going to be a.challenge to begin with. If at all possible. I am not a professional painter nor a contractor of any kind. With the cost roughly around $50 how could go wrong. Let me say yes there is a very strong odor. I used a respiratory and highly recommend using one. The first coat is just a base coat. DO NOT keep going over the same area . It will get tacky and not do well. Start with a thin coat and move on. Don't linger and waste time. If you don't have a couple hours to devote to this project do not start it. Cover with the base coat. Don't expect great coverage to begin with. Wait at least one hour before a second coat. Do expect there to be some minor streaks. If you encounter bumps and little specks then after that first hour lightly use a t least a 220 grit sand paper. This is not a job for the lazy. Continue with the second coat. Do not work slowly. Take the time to work with it but do not keep going over the same area. The product self levels as time goes on. I used three -four coats. DO NOT use a foam roller whatsoever!! It will come desolve and come apart melt if you will. I made.this mistake . I changed to another type 1/4 in nap. And finished allowing it to dry. After Christmas I used 220 grit WET sanded it and applied another coat this week. It is a very nice finish. Yes it does have a texture to the finish. Some have referred to as orange peel. That is true but ok in my book. I don't know how this product will hold up over the ⁴long haul but listen it looks very nice I am happy with it and my friend had me just finish her tub yesterday. Long story short. Would I recommend this product....if you are not afraid of a little work and willing to have a positive attitude and realistic expectations then go for it. I can't speak of how long this product will hold up over the.long haul but if it lasts for a few years it will be well worth the money. I can always do it again. And not have spent thousands for a new tub. But in my opinion I do have a.new tub. Thanks for your time. Now go do some work and get yourself a great looking clean tub..and get over the fear of the fumes.
Review: Works well but my oh my the strong odor - The rust-oleum product was great to refinish the tile surround of my tub - it was a little watery to work with at first even though I stirred for quite a while - perhaps I should have stirred longer. Be sure to prep your surface well and tape off an cover any surfaces you do not want to get paint on. I ended up doing 3 coats and waiting for at least an hour between coats. 1 can was plenty for the area I completed - I still had a 1/4 can left when I was completed. The bug negative I have with this product is the odor. I opened the windows, had a fan going and wore a face mask but that was not enough. As other reviews have stated, this stuff has a strong, toxic odor. Definitely do not go with a regular paining mask - make sure to order an industrial respirator if you do not have one - you will need it. The toxic smell permeated throughout my whole house - I ended up having to open multiple windows and it took about a day for the smell to dissipate. With all that said, the finish turned out nice - very glossy and looks like it was always white. As you can see from the picture I had a brownish/beige tile and a white tub - the rustoleum paint is so white it makes my tub look like gray now - not a big deal but just something to note. It's only been about 3 weeks since I completed this project so I can't attest to how it will hold up yet - will update if any issues with adhesion arise. I also had to refinish my walk in shower as well but I ended up buying another product that had low odor because I could not imagine dealing with the toxic smell again so I used DWIL Tub and Tile refinishing for the shower - it was a little more expensive but has little to no odor - it worked fine but does not have that glossy shine like rust-oleum. Overall, if you can get pass the dealing with the odor for a day then, for $43 this is a good product to use to make a great upgrade to old tiles.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How much am I suppose to be sanding? I took some 220 grit and then 400. The 400 felt like it was sliding on glass. Also I have an etching design on the bottom of the tub that is lots of circles. Is that a problem?**
A: We used120 grit first to the whole area looked dull then we went over the whole are with 400 grit to make sure it was completly smooth before treatment.the bottom was rough when we started after the sanding and paint it was completely smooth .

**Q: what kind brush I have to use it?**
A: I used Black China bristle, the product is like an oil based paint, a small foam roller would be better because you won't get brush strokes. The epoxy product is harder to work with, don't over brush if you do it with a brush. And reverse your stoke on the second application. Good luck, ventilate the room really well and wear a mask even though the directions don't require it.

**Q: why would the second coat bubble up and peal off. How do you repair the peeled off sections. Tried to recoat and bubbled up and peeled again.**
A: Same problem. I believe the issue with me is that the bathroom temp was around 90. For this paint to dry properly the label says 65 - 90 degrees and less than 80% humidity. I turned my A/C down and monitored the temp in the bathroom. It was about 78 and no bubbling occurred, so I assume the temp was the problem. I assume with this type of paint, temperature is very important. Unless your a professional painting in really cold weather, who really pays attention to that aspect of the process? Not me.

**Q: What is a good roller to use with this product.**
A: The box recommends a roller with a certain nap and to wrap the roller in painters tape before you start to remove any loose fibers. I used a 4" Purdy brand roller of the appropriate nap (purple-colored as recommend by Menard's paint staff). I used a new one for my 2nd coat. My rollers did not fall apart or lose any fibers, but I wonder if I would have had better coverage if I switched it partway through (as suggested in another question/answer). Make sure you get a good brush--it's annoying if the bristles come off in your paint surface.

Re finished the bathtub, looks 100x better. That being said make sure to properly ventilate as the smell is strong which is to be expected!
