However, to deter casual or opportunistic theft, or in situations where a thief is not going to want to make any noise for fear of being detected, then any clamp is going to be a very good visual deterrent, and on value for money, you can't really beat this. It is solidly made, the jaws are covered in a soft rubbery coating to avoid scratching, the lock feels positive enough, and unlike one other unlucky reviewer, the holes in mine are all fine, it can be locked at any width. It is also very easy to fit, much easier than some of the more traditional clamps which fit over the whole wheel. The key hole has a cover that can be closed over it to keep moisture out, but I will heed the warnings of others and make sure it is kept well oiled so it doesn't seize up. It certainly does look authentic on the wheel - whilst I would not really consider it secure (I am sure if someone REALLY wanted what it was attached to it would not be difficult to remove) it at least shows there is protection! Packaging was minimal, along with instructions, but it's pretty straightforward to use.
