I have had the kettle for about a month now and not only is it well made & stylish it works like a dream. It heats up extremely quickly on my induction hob and looks just lovely! Just a couple of points to make... at first I thought the whistle wasn't working too well but I hadn't put the lid down fully on the kettle - it fits quite tightly and can be quite difficult to remove when filling. Not a problem for me but thought I would raise this point as it may be a problem for some. Also I bought the 'White Ivory Trim' model and it's worth pointing out that this is actually cream, perfect for my kitchen but if you are wanting a white trim it's definitely not white! That said, I am absolutely thrilled with it - hence the 5 stars. Review: Looks great and pours really well - This is a really stylish kettle and an iconic design. Like other reviews, I had an issue with the bird whistle but desertcart were great in replacing it. The first one I received as a present and the whistle did not work. desertcart were quick to refund my account so I could get another without the gift-giver knowing about it. The second one worked fine. With the first one I think the lid was not sealing properly and the steam was escaping through the lid. Make sure the lid is snapped on firmly - you should hear it click. It is not a loud whistle and I think the level of water in the kettle makes a difference to how loud it is. I find it works best it you don't fill it much above the base of the spout. As to the complaints about it in other reviews - Don't leave it boiling for ages or the whistle will melt. Don't try to remove the whistle while the steam is coming out or you will burn yourself. Michael Graves was an American designer & architect who appreciated the architecture of Rome. Not all Alessi products are made in Italy. Most are, and so is this kettle. While your question was not specifically for me, I do have one of these for sale. The one I have was personally engraved by Michael Graves, thus the price is much higher. Will it boil any better than the non-autographed kettle ? No, but it is special in that Michael Graves lived till March of 2015 and never wavered for good quality design. I can say that this particular kettle I have was opened and engraved by Michael at his Princeton, NJ offices where it was also designed - in the USA. **Q: Where are these kettles made?** A: I believe in Italy, an Italian you'll love forever! **Q: do you have to remove the bird to pour the water?** A: Yes. I have not tried to pour hot water through the bird. **Q: does this kettle work for induction cooktops?** A: It works perfectly fine on an induction cooktop. I've had my kettle since 1984 and it is indestructible. Funny thing is, on the induction cooktop it comes to a boil so quietly and quickly that at first it seems like it isn't heating. If I can give you some advice it would be to purchase a couple of extra little birds for it because they get fragile and break after a while (like several years).
