Putting water on a pile of wood to start it seems retarded to me when you could use some smaller sticks and a propane torch. **Q: How hard is it to dispense tiny amounts? I want to test carbide lamps without using up a good-sized chunk from the can I bought in 1964 each time.** A: HI. The carbide in the tube is granulated so you should not have any problem selecting any infinitesimal amounts needed. **Q: Is it powder? can i use it on a mini cannon? that fires 30cal bb** A: It is a powder. It's calcium carbide, which forms acetylene when mixed with water. You should not use it in anything that fires a projectile unless it was specifically designed to use calcium carbide. **Q: Am I supposed to mix this with water to use? Or is it ready to load and fire** A: You have to mix it with water, but It must be mixed inside the chamber to collect the acetylene gas. Make sure to follow the directions - if you're not getting consistently loud bangs, try blowing in the breach of the cannon between shots. I haven't measured carefully, but I expect to get much more than 100 shots out of the tube. The cannon I have takes a very, very small "charge."
