I’ve purchased carbon fibres from other companies via desertcart and received a bag which appears to be full of coal or charcoal. I have a TDS meter (which calculates the parts per million of undiluted solids in a litre of water) and and found these filters to give a perfect 0-5 ppm rating, whereas the cheaper ‘coaly’ bags have infected my distilled water with upwards of 1000ppm! Check first with your current filter to compare. **Q: How often should we change these?** A: I don't know but I change mine every 4 -8 weeks **Q: can these be used for viafosa distillers the new model with stainless steel spout?** A: Ahh yes well I've been using them in that same exact model and all seems good, just make sure to flush one whole distilled water process after first putting the new activated carbon bag into stainless spout, as the first cycle comes out a bit grey black ish due to loose carbon particles. Hope this helps  **Q: How do you know when the filter needs changing? Is there something visible?** A: On the packet I bought it says to change every 1-3 months. Thicker than the ones I had before with more carbon stuff in it, so it lasts a bit longer, if you are like me and forget to change it on time. To get good use out of it, you must however adhere to the instructions and rinse them thoroughly before use. To do this, I put mine in a glass of water, then move and squeeze the filter around in it with a teaspoon, to get the particles out. I then discard the water, refill the glass, and repeat the process about 5 more times, holding the glass against the light, which lets me see if there are still particles left in it, or not.
