RECOMMENDED FITTING INSTRUCTIONS GARAGE DEFENDER FOR UP AND OVER GARAGE DOOR Raw bolted to Concrete Base PLEASE NOTE: THE UNIT MUST BE SECURED INTO GOOD SOLID CONCRETE Remember to oil your padlock once a week - Keep your lock locking longer. 1. Important Note: position both the base unit under garage door and position top unit to front of garage ensuring the door swing clears the padlock lug before permanently fixing as in diagram A. 2. Using the base unit as a template drill through the holes with a 10mm diameter concrete drill 10 mm deep. 3. Remove the unit, and then re-drill the two holes with a 16mm diameter concrete drill 90mm deep. 4. Clear dust from drilled holes. 5. Drop both security bolts into the unit's base and screw on the both shields before dropping into the prepared holes in the concrete. 6. Tighten the two security bolts evenly to a torque of 25-30 lbs. 7. Please note the external security fixing bolt may require a concrete pad. If you have tarmac outside the garage door as in diagram B You can now sleep soundly at night knowing your pride and joy is safely secured in your garage. Option 1) Rebate Base Plate in Concrete Option 2) Cut Off base Plate **Q: What do you use to tighten the bolts.photo shows unusual shape on top of bolt** A: You are supplied with the correct Alan key, I even hammered in a ball bearing in the hexagonal hole after tightening the bolts to prevent bolts being drilled out. **Q: Can you buy a replacement lock? the barrel is seizing up, even with wd-40 all over it. i have to rattle the key in lock to open it ordinarily?** A: I would get some proper key oil … as I had a lock changed and the locksmith said WD40 is not good for locks .. worth a try **Q: My husband is rubbish at diy, does this need drilling into the floor to secure??** A: Yes it needs two holes drilling into secure concrete to take bolts you can see pictures of bolts above right of keys. I had to buy the correct sized drill bit (can't remember the size now but it says on the instructions). From experience not all drills are large enough for this size of drill bit. All the parts including the padlock and keys are in the box, it’s well packaged and all the components are heavy duty. The instructions are nice and clear too. They say to check the clearance of the door with the padlock lug before bolting down, but it’s also worth checking that the door covers the inner bolt head (even partially) for extra security; so take a bit of time to find the sweet spot before drilling the holes.
