Latest version requires Windows 10, and once you install the drivers, you can install Cyberlink PowerDirector and capture there with ease. You need to select quality of recording (MPEG2 is best for interlaced material and can be set to be near lossless at 15000kbps, plus AC3 at max bitrate) and the source (play around with the few choices until you see and hear the signal, defaults rarely work). Button on product is useless. PowerDirector is a bad program for this however because every time there is a non-recorded part in a video, it complains of copyright abuse and deletes the video recorded thus far. This is the same for all commercial programs, since the snow effect of a blank VHS has been used for copyright protection at some point. Work around that (check the end of videos and be sure to program the end of recording at that mark or manually interrupt recording), and it is a simple way to save your videos. It is not worth going for free programs, as they complicate other matters. Just know that the hardware and drivers of the current version are for Windows 10, and you need a previous version for older Windows. The VCR needs also a TBC no matter what version of the product you use (either integrated or separate). SVHS PAL to MPEG2/AC3 on Windows 10 x64 works fine here. Quality is excellent (I used a DVDR previously), but not comparable to old TV or DVD quality. Review: Does not work with Windows 11 - The driver is for Windows 7 or 8. It will not work in Windows 10 or11. It is not compatible. They tell you to turn core isolation off in Windows Security so that your computer doesn't see the incompatible software as a threat. This puts your computer at risk because it then doesn't see anything as a threat. I tried this anyway because my curiosity got the better of me and it did download but because it is for Windows 7, the installed driver doesn't work and corrupts your Computer. I had to restore my computer back to an earlier time. I will be sending the piece of rubbish back to desertcart. If you want to keep your laptop running smoothly and working properly then don't buy this product

**Q: Does this work with windows 10?**
A: As far as I know it doesn't.  I bought this somewhere else and was even sent a replacement directly from the company itself because the one I had was not working on my Windows 10 computer.  Replacement also had the same issue.  You will hear the audio but will not see any video.  I initially thought it might be a computer issue since it worked on my Windows 7 computer.  I recently got another Windows 10 computer  and when I tried this device on the new computer I was facing the same issue I was facing with my older Windows 10 computer.  So it can be confirmed it does not work in Windows 10.

**Q: Will this work in Linux / ubuntu 14.04**
A: B. Pinker's info worked for me to view video (after some trial and error with numbers in device names) but I was unable to record successfully from VLC. I tried Convert option under Capture Device and also the toolbar record button. My computer may be too slow. I had success with ffmpeg on command line:ffmpeg -f v4l2 -i /dev/video0 -f alsa -i hw:2:0 -target ntsc-dvd ouptutfile.mpg

**Q: Can you transfer from VHS to a computer file, such as MP4?**
A: I use Windows 10 and using the EZGrabber, which is included on the CD with this package, it saves to the computer as AVI automatically. I don't remember seeing a choice for MP4.

**Q: When I try to load Ezgrabber, I get a message that says, RoxioCinePlayer can not be found, try again using a valid copy of rhe RoxioCinePlayer installation package, "CPDP ". My question is, where can I find a valid copy of the Roxio

A: It's been a few months since I did the installation, but your problem rings a bell. I'm on a Windows 7 system (and yes, the tool is called EZGrabber on mine as well). I ran into some problems that seemed to stem from the installation software expecting to go onto a system running XP. My solution: instead of using the product installation software, I just went into each individual folder on the CD and clicked on the .exe files. Although it took a few extra clicks, everything installed without a problem, and it all seems to be playing nicely. I hope that helps.

The driver is for Windows 7 or 8. It will not work in Windows 10 or11. It is not compatible. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good adapter but encoding software limited. Other free software available.

It works well. Only downside is the included Powerdirector software comes with a tiny cd disc that got lost in my laptop standard size CD-RW slot (not a tray unfortunately). Looked high and low for support and it took hours before I found the same version online to download. Powerdirector 12. It's very old so if you need to add text over video you'll need to purchase newer software. Otherwise it works ok converting pal or NTSC to mpg. I needed a free software to convert this to MP4 or mkv which is a much more widely compatible format to play on phones and other devices.
