I like the fact that there is glass on 3 sides... making the fireplace visible at the sides. It has a nice flicker and lovely warm orangy redish display. It's very realistic. It also has a separate tray that fits perfectly on the top for the wax. No timer...but has an easy round on off switch on the cord. I've only had it for a couple days so I can't speak to the longevity. UPDATE: I had to return this item as after a few weeks the paint on the wax pan began peeling off. And has begun to corrode. Making it impossible to burn the wax without a big rusty mess... along with the paint chips. I really wanted to keep this.... maybe if you only wanted it for the mini fireplace effect...but not for using wax... unless they start using heat resistant paint. Very disappointing. Thankfully I saved the packaging. Sending it back today.
