Review: Has a very high quality look to it and is very sturdy - I purchased this reading bench to put next to a dress-up rack (also purchased through desertcart) to create a neat and inviting kids corner in my finished basement. The book bench came quickly, very well packaged and fairly easy to put together myself (64 year old grandmother). It took approx. 2 hrs, but that’s because I worked slowly and carefully to follow the instructions and tighten each piece of hardware securely. I found it best to take it one step at a time laying out only the pieces and hardware needed for the step that I was on. That way you are sure you have the step done properly if there are no pieces and hardware remaining and then feel confident to move onto the next step, again laying out only the pieces needed for the next step. They do give you a few extra dowels, screws, etc. overall but each step in the instructions tells you exactly how many pieces are needed for that step. They even give you a small supply of white stickers to cover many of the screw holes, for a clean, finished look. All of the holes lined up and it went together relatively easy. Nothing was cracked, broken or missing. I love that the cubbies and book shelves are different sizes, making it easy to organize a wide variety of book and toy sizes. My 4 and 2 yr old grandsons love climbing up on it and sitting together on it while I sit on the floor in front of them and read stories to them. Great unit and well worth the $$$.

She has loaded it full of books and sits on it for hours, and so far, there haven't been any issues with stability. There are plenty of supports, so an adult use it with confidence (albeit a shorter one, my wife is around 5'3, but this unit is too small for me to comfortably sit on at just under 6'0). It looks really good, there's no creaking during use (even when I sit on it, and I'm around 170 lbs), and assembly wasn't bad, at all, considering I had set it up mostly in her closet, where she wanted it. It's been a few months since I set it up, but I remember the instructions being pretty decent, and it went together pretty easily. There were a few spare parts, too, which I put into a plastic bag and taped to the unit in the recess in the rear. I did buy a separate cushion for it, as the cushion that came with it is a little on the hard side.

A: No, it can't.

A: I think it would hold fine but I don’t really sit on mine because it wouldn’t be very comfortable for that purpose. I use it as a Montessori shelf and it’s been fantastic for that!

I purchased this reading bench to put next to a dress-up rack (also purchased through Amazon) to create a neat and inviting kids corner in my finished basement. So incredibly cute and durable! So glad I made this purchase! Was an amazing addition to my 6 year old daughter's room and she absolutely loves it! Easy to assemble, but give yourself plenty of time to do so. A solid piece of furniture, such as this, doesn't just come together without some time and effort.
