Can be filled with anything around the home, the one in the picture was stuffed with polystyrene balls, but you can use newspaper, old pillows, old clothing or blankets. They arrived folded in a surprisingly small box. Some reviewers said about smell from the leather - and there definitely is some - but it didn't last long and was not a problem. We filled our stools with polystyrene beads which were delivered in a stretch net. This made the filling process considerably easier. However, the size of the stools is a bit different from that stated. Ours were about 50cm across and roughly 28/29cm high. No problem with this except in calculating how much fill to buy. We used at least 8 cubic feet of beads to make both stools firm - but beads settle and we now need to put more in. Not an issue if you're using some other filling. As the leather seemed a bit 'dry', we used leather renovation cream to make a softer feel and this worked well (time consuming job though!).
