The balance of the tool is perfect, the handles are not castings of some sort as was my old one and the hinges and pieces of the tool fit together perfectly. This press does not come apart for cleaning. Rather it opens to well more than 180 degrees and as in the photos, you can see the three pieces and how easy it will be to clean. The press gets stuck after use and requires a little fiddling to be able to clean out garlic skin that remains. But it is a good quality stainless steel and one of the better presses I have owned.
