It is present on 100% of all quarter inch hex drill bits, driver bits, literally any quarter inch hex tool for a drill or driver. Since the '90s. Shame on Bosch for this advertisement. **Q: Are the drill bits replaceable (in case one breaks)?** A: Each of the three self centering drills have allen set screws on the side of each unit that allow the drill bits to be removed and replaced. I use these drill bits all the time. It is easier and more accurate to drill a centered starter hole using these bits than trying to eyeball a hole and find out that it is not centered. Fast, accurate and easy to use. And I believe that the small drill bit is used is each of the drills. **Q: Are the drill bits tapered ?** A: The drill bit themselves are straight, like any 'normal' drill bit. The size 6 is 3/32; size 8 is 7/64; and size 10 is 1/8" diameter. The tip of the housing is slightly tapered to facilitate centering, such as in the hole of hinge. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ These work great and are made from heavy duty steel, so should hopefully last *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 22 April 2026* Having tried a few cheaper versions of these self-centering drill bits and not being overly impressed, I decided to give the Bosch version a go and they are brilliant. They are made from hardened steel instead of alloy the cheaper versions are made from and feel heavy duty and well made. The parts all fit together snugly, with very little play, so the drill bit ends up dead center of the hinge screw hole. You can also easily take them apart to replace the drill bit and for cleaning out the sawdust.The only slight downside of these is that as they're made for the US market, they are imperial instead of metric, but can still work fine with our equivalent hinge and screw sizes. The issue arises when eventually needing to replace the drill bit as imperial bits are less common, but still possible to find.Overall I am impressed with these and would definitely recommend if you fit a lot of hinges. It makes the job a lot easier and faster.
