Ticks whilst counting down. To get it to ring when it reaches 0 you have turn it clockwise one full rotation until it is at 0 again then turn it back the other way and line it up with the time you want. Even at one minute it then works and the timer will ring. Twisting it just clockwise to the time you initially want will not work. **Q: How big is it.** A: 4 inches / 10 cms. **Q: Does it need to be twisted around to 60 minutes first to "arm" it or can you just turn it to a time, and let it run?** A: The instructions say turn it back to 60mins so that's what I do !
