All dishes will chip, but they shouldn't chip with gentle use. And I haven't had any chips yet after a couple of months of use. I just replaced a entire set I've had for 25 years--pfaltzgraff also. Only thing I have an issue with is that pfaltzgraff doesn't have an entire line of this plate or any of their dishes anymore. I'm not interested in coffee cups and saucers, but WOULD like the option to purchase salad plates, serving dishes, and a butter dish.
