The saucer is just for recharging the cup. **Q: I have to heat up my ordinary espresso cup with my automatic espresso maker. can the ember be heated before receiving the coffee?** A: When the house (and cup) was really cold on some mornings, I'd preheat the Ember with hot tap water.
