We have shavings and straw in the hutch - no problems with these being on / nearby the plate. No fire risk as the plate does not get warm enough to cause any kind of combustion. Our dog has a habbit of trying to drag everything around.** A: It does not come with clips, but as the heat area does not extend to the perimeter , it would be possible to attach small "L shabe" metal brackets and use self tapping screws to fix it in place. My only concern would be if the dog could get to the cable as it would not take a big dog to bite through the sheathing. **Q: Would this be suitable for an outdoor guinea pig hutch please if we install an outdoor socket close to the hutch?
