It is short, with handle and blade almost the same length, about 2.5 inches each, nicely weighted and with an olive wood handle.Olive wood is a very hard, densely grained wood with lovely patterning. It is also water resistant, which helps prevent problems with wood rot. It will certainly out live me!I have a Crucifix that was a souvenier of Jerusalem which my father gave me over sixty years ago, and whilst the figure of Christ made of Ivorine (made of plastic) has long shown its age, the Olive wood still looks good though a little darker, despite it going round the globe in a kit bag.
