While the bag is definitely not water resistant without the rain cover, I'm sure if I'd gotten the cover on before it started pouring it would have been fine! I fit so much stuff in the bag, and it was so comfortable to wear for both days. For the price I'm very impressed with the quality. Oh and for everyone complaining the hydration hole is sewn up, just take some sharp scissors and cut a slit in the fabric.
