I even bought 2-identical meters side by side and got different readings. At this price point they all suck and I cannot understand how they maintain a 4.5 or better review rating score. A cleaning brush is included to brush the dirt off the probe tip between soil pH readings. An extra set of calibration chemical packets is included. The reasons for this is related the moisture content of the sample, as this moisture is the only way to guarantee sufficiently intimate contact with the probe sensor. Yet the manufacturer makes no mention of steps to ensure proper wetting of dry soils and repeated trials to ensure you receive stable readings. I discovered this accidentally and had I not launched into multiple trials and dampness levels, as preliminary readings indicated my soil was very alkaline with readings of 8.4-8.6, which is quite unusual. After I insured reasonable soil dampness over multiple trials, the the readings ranged from 6.4-6.8.
