    An excellent introduction with a nice balance between poetry - first half, and prose - second half, by a translator whose integrity in translation is a standard that many more populist 'translators' could well imbibe.

    Still the the most authoritative (and truly representative ) selection of Rumi's works . Nicholson also was an excellent , very readable TRANSLATOR - NOT A SUBJECTIVE INTERPRETER , putting his or her own ideas into Rumi's verse. Nicholsonknew the historical and cultural background from which Rumi emerged and doesn't try to make him into a non-Islamic New Agecaricature .
