We bought our first large set of Portmeirion Botanic Garden dishes, assorted bowls, mugs, serving dishes, etc. back in 1982 on our honeymoon in Bermuda. They are beautiful and have held up, almost all of them are into their fourth decade. Gradually, we have had to replace several that were under daily use from losses due accidents - and only a few due to age. Not bad in terms of decades of use, going from the oven to table and thousands of dishwasher cycles. Instead of the regular Botanicals my wife elected to try out the Exotic Botanic Garden variety. These blend in well with the regular botanical dishes with perhaps a little more flare. Otherwise, they remain the same in terms of beauty, quality and longevity. There are some actual plate design differences between the three editions, however, they still stack nicely and no one would probably notice unless they look at the plates' undersides to detect this. Not sure how this will hinder the plate's performance in the future, but I'll update this review if I notice anything that causes me to reduce this rating to 4 stars instead of 5. Finally, my experience with Portmeirion as a whole has been a good one. In the 40+ years that I have owned this line, I have had only two "casualties" with neither being a fault of the manufacture of the dish. I checked other pieces in my collection and all said Made in England. I can't guarantee it for you, but the ones I purchased from this site were made in England. **Q: Are there 6 different patterns? Looks as tho the African Lily is duplicated??!! Was the 6th pattern supposed to be Clematis or Virgin's Bower?** A: Whenever I have purchased Portmeirion Botanic Garden sets, the patterns were 6 different flowers. Though a number of the patterns repeat across items in the setting, ie you might find the daisy on a pasta bowl and on a coffee mug, the items within the 6 piece sets have always been different. Occasionally one of the patterns is retired and a new flower is introduced in the set. For this reason, I can't say what is included in the current set of 6 plates. **Q: Are they all the same flower in this set? Can I choose the ones I want to make up 6?** A: Each plate has a different flower, and you cannot chose the ones you want to make up the 6. But know that the assortment of flowers is part of the appeal of serving with Portmeirion; they look beautiful on the table. **Q: Has anyone had a problem with glaze and/or plates cracking after years of use in microwave?** A: I too have issues with the glaze cracking (crazing) on all plates and bowls. I do not use microwave, just regular use and dishwasher.
