The tubing looks similar to cheap drinking straws. I thought they might last a week. But we have had them outside on our deck all winter and have never had a problem with them - we live in New England so they have lasted through snow, ice, and extreme cold (including a whole week of temps around 0). The remote control is great so you don't have to go out and turn them on and off when there's a foot of snow outside. I am extremely impressed with them! I have a problem with bright and shiny lights. My porch has your own solar light set up. So I decided I want to get a new strand put in my bedroom because my old strand died. What I do is I plug it in and then I hook it around hooks up top near my ceiling so that if I’m watching TV in the dark it’s not fully dark so it’s better for your eyes then sitting in the dark but it’s not too bright. And sometimes I use the remote as a light when I get up at night. We wrapped them around our palm trees for Christmas. We didn't get them to sync "exactly" to turn three sets on and off at the same time. However, we like the effect of one at a time. The directions are extremely tiny print - you will need a magnifying glass (or to be extremely near sighted as am I!) The colors are pretty and work well with the LED Christmas lights on our bushes. Another bonus - they are very pliable - easy to wrap smoothly and can "tie off" with a small tie wrap.
