## Description

The Norton flattening stone for waterstones is precisely level, with a hard bond, to maintain the flat surface of waterstones; coarse-grit silicon carbide gives it maximum cutting power, and diagonal grooves on one face provide channels for material removal. This flattening stone measures 3/4 x 9 x 3 inches (H x W x D), which makes it suitable for flattening any waterstone with lesser dimensions. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The plastic case protects and stores the stone.Flattening stones are abrasive rectangular blocks used to smooth the sharpening surfaces and flatten the depressions that repeated use wears in water-lubricated sharpening stones (waterstones), to prepare them for effective sharpening of knives or tools. Waterstones have a finer grit and softer bond than oilstones, and use water as the lubricant to develop a slurry, a thin paste of abrasive grains and water that removes metal with less pressure than oilstone requires. **Q: Has anyone found this to properly flatten #3000 wetstones?**
A: I used it on a 10000 wetstone and it worked fine

**Q: Can I use this on any grit from 8000 and below?**
A: I have not had any problems with using it on 8000 grit and below

**Q: do you use water while flattening oilstones?**
A: Yes. If you can under running water. I soak the flattening stone along with the other stones I am using that day.

**Q: Can this be used to lap or flatten a set of Venev diamond stones from Gritomatic?**
A: i don't think so. the one i got wouldn't even flatten a couple of plain water stones without going extremely concave. i returned it.

this Norton flattening stone? Straight-up gotta have it if you're messin' with waterstones. It's a rough and tough stone that gets your sharpening stones flat, quick. And that's, like, super important if you don't want your edges comin' out all wonky. The lines on it? They help get rid of all the gunk when you're flattenin'. Plus, they throw in a little holder thing and a case, which is pretty sweet for keepin' things tidy and stable. Made down in Mexico, this thing's totally useful and key for keepin' your waterstones in top-notch shape. This review represents my personal opinion and experience with this product.
