I found Slater's 2017 translation to be superior to other earlier translations included the now somewhat dated English language version by the brilliant Constance Garnett. Slater retains the color and character of the original without the dissonance of being overly literal. Kudos to both the translator and Oxford for this work. I could not put it down. This read like a good Hitchcock psychological thriller. Also the human condition is expertly portrayed. Many fascinating social points of view. I also have read The Idiot which I would place close to this. And the Brothers Karamazov which I would place third.
