However the fact is it works very well and once you know the wiring schematic it is very easy to connect! I was told a load of nonsense by my M.A. saying I needed a 'like for like' replacement and "Don't buy a cheap one from desertcart". The so called 'specialist' they put me in touch with was very vague about attending and replacing it! Here's my tips for successfully installing one! Firstly don't remove or disconnect any wires from the old one!! Take pictures of the wiring showing clearly which wires are connected to which terminals! If the colour codes are not obvious mark each one with a number corresponding to the terminal it is fixed to! Identify EXCATLY the make and model of the old one and look up on the comprehensive instruction manual to find it in the list! If it's not on there it might not work! The pdf manual can be downloaded in advance from the item description! Once you have matched the old to the new just follow the number code for your old handset to the new one! That's it! Make sure you also check the correct setting of the SW2 (Z or E) switch! All in all this has probably saved me over a hundred pounds on using a 'specialist' company!! If you mean how much cable do you need to reach the connections then not very much as there are plenty of holes in the back, but the more cable you have coming out of the wall the more flexible your mounting options will be. **Q: What sound does this make please?** A: A quite harsh flat-sounding buzzer. There is no volume control. It's not a pleasant noise, but you won't be able to ignore it. **Q: I have 8 wires coming out of wall (red, green, white, brown, blue). how do i connect it?** A: No real answer here. You need to establish what colours were used by the original installer. Can you get acess to the main external buttons? Did you take note of the connections of the previous handset? Its selv so dont be afraid to try different connections to get it working. The best way is to use a multi meter to find your +12v and 0v then find the lock activation by shorting it on +12v (the lock will buzz) then if memory serves me correct just switch the speech and ring until it works. No damage can be done to the unit.
