The way that the story is written is beautiful. The emotions, the backstories, the relationships. They’re all tangible in a way. You can feel the characters emotions, feel their pain, and the snippets of backstory interspersed throughout allow for you to understand the whole character as the story goes on.The mafia aspect of it is great! And I love Alessio and Ayla’s characters. Alessio transforms from this cold-hearted killer to opening his heart to Ayla, unaware of her truth; Ayla is scared and has lived in fear for most of her life but when she’s with Alessio, she’s at peace. Their relationship is a beautiful disaster and imperfectly perfect.Secondary characters like Maddie, Viktor, Artur, Nikolay and Lena are amazing. They add little bits to the story like love, warmth, humour. Without them the story would feel incomplete.As this is part one, there’s obviously a cliffhanger and I can certainly say...I was shocked! I missed the fact that this story is told over three books so wouldn't have started it at all, but I am really glad I did as it pulls at your emotions and book one leaves you wanting more.
