The only difference is the 3 stripes on the band, where the original ones had a solid silver colored band. The duration of writing is still just as long as the old version. Hope this helps... **Q: What is the diameter of the barrel of the pen?** A: The diameter is bout 3cm. They are about 4.5 inches long and a little smaller than an average pen. This is a good thing if you like to carry them around with you like I do. They are also very tactile and feel good in your hand. **Q: Are these the metal pens or the plastic ones?** A: I have never seen a metal Skilcraft pen in all my 65 years around and in the military. The tip, click cap, pocket clip and center band are all metal, as is the ink cartridge. The body has always been plastic. The only new thing is the three black stripes on the center band.
