I have always loved the string section of an orchestra. To me, the strings give some songs an ethereal quality. Well, Jackie Gleason loved strings also. This CD of Christmas music is mostly driven by the string section. All of the songs are nice and slow. There are no fast songs on it at all. Obviously Mr. Gleason was trying to instill a soft, easy, laid-back, and mellow mood for the Christmas holidays. I think he succeeded.I was a little boy in the 1960's. I remember sitting in front of the television and watching his variety show. I loved the physical comedy, as that is funny to a little boy. When I look at the front and rear cover of the CD, and see his smiling face and dapper appearance, it takes me to those happy memories. He truly was, "The Great One."When I listen to this CD, it transports me back to those days as a little boy. At Christmas time my Mom would take me to various department stores and five & tens. I find myself remembering sitting on Santa's lap, looking at the Christmas decorations, and having lunch with her in one of those stores. Isn't it great when a picture of a person, or the sound of some music, can elicit some pleasant memories? I played her album until it started skipping. That's when I started looking for a CD with the same songs on it. Jackie and his orchestra made wonderful music along with his singers. There are no words sung on these songs. Just background emphasis. The music is great for background music while you decorate your home and tree, having a party, or making goodies.
