We did not purchase it to hold cash and that may be a good thing. It is small enough to be easily picked up and hidden but a less-than-honest person. But, if you will be monitoring the box I see no reason to not recommend it.What we did buy it for was to lock up and safeguard my mother-in-law's medicines. After reaching the point where she can not remember if she had taken her medications we hired a service to visit her daily and see that she does take them. The only problem was that she kept telling them she already had taken them, but could not remember when or where she had put the empty pill packet with that day's med. They suggested a lockable box with them maintaining control of the key.It has worked wonderfully. She tried to jimmy the lock open one day with a nail file and could not. I wouldn't want to see what she might do with a brick, but for now it solidly keeps things "safe."One final thing. She does not like small black things so we painted it red for her (Krylon outdoor paint works very nicely but takes a full 24-hours to completely dry).
