I used to wear skateboarder wrist guards, but changing to the Level gloves got rid of not just the bulk but also made getting ready quite a bit faster. While I cannot speak to their customer service, I have experienced a few falls while wearing these gloves, no hint of cracks or defect at all after about a year of wearing them. my wrist also felt as secure as when I wore my dedicated wrist guards. If there is one complaint I have about the Fly gloves is they are not as water proof as I would like them to be. my previous pair was Burton Gortex mittens, and kept me significantly drier over the whole day than this pair did. so the XCR gloves maybe a better choice if you value that.
