We put 4 scoops in a box every time we clean them out & sieve the stuff already in their. We have 7 chickens & a 20 kg bag lasts about 3 months on a weekly clean out. This is definitely a fine sand texture, rather than a true dust. That is something I much prefer for small pets as it doesn’t cause respiratory problems.My two chinchillas do really well with this product- even my ‘delicate’ boy who is prone to dry skin. I find it keeps coats in great condition without being over drying or irritant and the chins love it.I also use this sand with great success for my hamsters. My Roborovski has a third of his substrate made up of this sand and he’s a happy little guy. He loves to scratch around in it, dig himself in until he’s part buried in sand and sort through it to find bits of dry food I hide. This, like all dusts and sands, won’t hold up a burrow system so he has part of his tank dedicated to paper based bedding as well.My Syrian hamsters don’t tend to dig as deep in sand as dwarf hamsters.
