One, I have no experience with the extracts and do not plan to try them. Two, I regard gelatinized maca powder as a good food, not a supplement. The flavor was quite foreign at first because it seemed to taste as a root cellar smells. Figures...it's a root. I eat it for breakfast with uncooked old-fashioned rolled outs (that's right, it doesn't have to be cooked...again), non fat dry milk, chocolate (or other) flavored protein powder and raisins or dried cranberries or fresh blueberries. Water is added to obtain the "right" consistency. Very tasty, filling and lasts a long time. If I run out of maca, I miss the flavor...breakfast seems blah. As you can see, it is part of an enjoyable breakfast recipe, without the "I'm only eating it because it's supposedly good for me" attitude. Hope this helps. **Q: does the gelatized version taste different than the raw version or is it similar?** A: The taste is similar, but milder. The really nice thing is that it's a lot easier to dissolve in liquid or even just eat than the raw maca, because this stuff has all the starch taken out. The raw maca sticks to your teeth when eating. **Q: Is this the red maca root? I see nowhere on the label that says it.** A: It doesn't say anywhere of the package.Hope that helps! **Q: I want to try for hot flashes but am also taking bioidentical progesterone cream. can i do both or should i taper off cream? is it yellow black or red** A: Dear JE! I purchased this product and wanted to return it because there was a warning label on the back of my bag stating "this product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm" (best before date of Feb.2017). The picture of back of this product on Amazon does not have this label, neither do some you find at stores. Originally I was thinking of taking Maca to boost energy, but luckily read this label and did not use it. Got a full refund - wanted to send an unopened pouch back, but they did not want it. A few other women who reviewed this had complained of various things. I wrote a review on Amazon, but it is not there... From woman to woman, be very very careful! Flavour is barely present, it tastes like an extremely diluted version of maca (maybe a fraction of actual product mixed with some other form of powder substance with food colouring)The amount of gritty residue left at the bottom is awful. And as for gelatinized, if you've went that route to avoid the unpleasant upset stomach....forget it with this brand.
