I’m not a big Moody Blues fan, but they definitely were a band with an original and unique musical style and this album here is absolutely on of their finest, in my humble opinion. Some people believe that this SACD version is a great improvement sound wise, not in my opinion. I have an extraordinarily good stereo equipment - have not heard it on either a SACD player or in surround sound, only in ordinary stereo and here the sound way too highly compressed, which unfortunately results in a very muddy sound.A mix as this where there have been used a good healthy amount of reverb, with a sort of broad palette of sound does definitely not benefit from such a treatment.Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to check out other CD versions, only the old vinyl I have and that sounds far superior to this remaster. Here the music can breathe and the dynamics are much better. Of course this is a recording of the 60th and therefore not super Hifi quality, but it has its own charm and warmth about it, and this is what should be preserved.People has a tendency to think that this is a fault of the CD as a media, but they couldn’t be more wrong and I have no idea as to why some professionals believe that the output of CD remastering should burst out of your speakers like thunder. It definitely doesn’t improve the sound quality - much on the contrary! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Deluxe version-not so deluxe! *by M***A on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 July 2008* I always loved this album, it trully is a masterpiece. So when I finallygot hold of this deluxe set, I marvelled at the quality of the remaster, disc one, that is. To my total amazement, on hearing disc two, I ceased to marvel. Disc two has been recorded poorly, the sound of the guitars, and the singing, is distorted. How on earth were these recordings everreleased? Do Moody Blues actually know this? Disc one is terrific, but the second, bonus disc, is quite dissapointing! Why bother to include a substandard material to accompany a true gem, one of the best records brought out in the sixties?M.S. London ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Praise from a convert *by S***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 April 2011* I admit I wasn't really familiar with much of the Moody Blue's output. I purchased this SACD cos ... well ... there's a limit to what's available in the SACD format.Boy, am I glad I got hold of this. The Moody Blues rock!The SACD surround mix does reveal some of the limitations inevitably captured on tape back in the days when eight tracks seemed like cutting edge technology. But I don't think this should be considered a criticism and is more characterful than problematic.The songs/performances really surprised me. I was, I'm afraid, pretty much under the impression that Nights In White Satin (which of course is a great song) summed up all that was worth knowing about The Moody Blues.
