This smart lock started off like a dream: sleek, modern, and just futuristic enough to make me feel like I lived in a spy movie. When it reads your fingerprint (which it does... most of the time, after a few polite retries and a whispered prayer), it unlocks with a satisfying click that says, “Welcome home, Agent 007.” But then came the twist. The lock is installed on an internal porch door—so it’s shielded from rain, snow, and the general wrath of British weather. But the door itself? A charming old external hardwood number with a personality of its own. It sticks. It groans. It demands a firm hand. And apparently, that firm hand was its final straw. One day (less than 6 months after installation), I pulled the handle a bit too enthusiastically (read: with the force of someone late for a meeting and betrayed by biometrics), and the inner spring gave up on life. The handle now hangs there like a sad little limb, unable to return to neutral or turn far enough to actually open the door.
