You are able to lock what I would call the maximum open and the maximum closed angles separately. In this case, you would set them both to 180 degrees. Note that this means that the knee would not bend at all, standing or sitting, unless you change the lock angle when actually moving into the sitting or standing position. Given how easy it is to change, this is certainly doable. **Q: Does this brace have the effect of reducing pressure on the knee joint?** A: I bought this knee brace after a meniscus operation. It relieves some of the pain in my knee joint. **Q: Do you have to wear the strap with this product?** A: Honestly, I didn't walk too much when I was wearing this brace; however, I found it stayed in place very well. The strap that goes around your leg right below the knee is at the top of your calf muscle - since the hinge is solid, this tends to keep the brace in place, along with the normal friction from the other three straps.
