Introduced to the Spanish in 1520 it rapidly became highly prized throughout the rest of the world. Today there are many other sources of vanilla but we believe Mexican vanilla is still the best./To get the maximum flavour from your pods slit half through with a small sharp knife and then run the tip down the pod to open it and remove the seeds (use the seeds too). Try this - boil a pint of full cream milk with a vanilla pod. Allow to cool to blood heat. Add a carton of live yogurt, put in a clean sealed pot and keep in the airing cupboard overnight. Transfer to the fridge and eat/drink as you like.
