I was wrong. This fire cement is great. It has stayed blacker than the one my chimney sweep uses and hasn't cracked at all. I did make sure I prepared and cleaned the fire and flue well first but I didn't make too much effort to really get a perfect finish, yet it looks pretty good! It is a little coarser than cements I have used before but I am sure you could get a really smooth neat finish if you need it. Job done quickly and effectively at minimal cost and plenty left for future jobs.
