It’s not the sharpest thing in the world, which wasn’t my priority. I like knives and things, so naturally I had to add a katana to my growing list of things. It’s a gorgeous sword. The weight, as I’ve never held a sword before, seems fine. It was meant to be a two-handed weapon anyhow. I can’t say much on the quality, as, again, I’m not an expert. Sturdiness as well, I’m unsure. I don’t plan to use it to cut things or to practice any type of swordsmanship. I did a decent amount of research on care for blades. I know guns need to be oiled ever so often, even if they’re not in use, and that you need to take care not to get them wet, not to touch them with your hands, etc. Most people who own katanas, both collectors and those who are practicing swordsman, seem to favor sewing machine oil for their blades, as it’s not too intense. They recommend applying oil to your blades every six months, more often if you live in a wet/humid area. When carrying the blade in its sheathe, it’s better to carry it with the sharp side up to keep it from rubbing the sheathe and dulling faster over time as you draw it out. Be mindful of this. And again: don’t just put your hands all over the blade! Only if you’re cleaning it or intend to clean it after. It will corrode it so much faster, especially if you have naturally sweaty or oily skin. That is all.
