Artist Susan Williams Ellis created Botanic Garden to depict a full range of flowers as found in English gardens from antique botanical books. Now, this new range branches out to include beautiful and vibrantly colored tropical flowers. Each piece in this new collections coordinates perfectly with traditional Botanic Garden, both in shape and design. The Dinner Plate is available as a single motif, or in this set of six assorted motifs. Review: These are truly beautiful - I have been a fan of Portmeirion since the mid 1970's. I was very excited to see that there were additional dinner plates that I could add to two previous editions (1972 and approximately 2003) to give my set 18 different designs. The three different issues blend together nicely. Don't let the word "Exotic" deter you from adding to any of the other editions of these plates. To me, these are just another extension to a beautiful line of dinnerware. There are some actual plate design differences between the three editions, however, they still stack nicely and no one would probably notice unless they look at the plates' undersides to detect this. One of the plates from this specific set does have several flaws on its underside. Not sure how this will hinder the plate's performance in the future, but I'll update this review if I notice anything that causes me to reduce this rating to 4 stars instead of 5. Finally, my experience with Portmeirion as a whole has been a good one. In the 40+ years that I have owned this line, I have had only two "casualties" with neither being a fault of the manufacture of the dish. These dishes have held up to everyday use and are still almost as beautiful as the day I got them. I expect the same from this recent purchase and I highly recommend that anyone interested in Portmeirion to give this set a try. They are truly beautiful. They are as beautiful as the originals, but sturdier (a bit heavier). The price was very good - less than I'd paid in the past. And they are still made in England. I checked other pieces in my collection and all said Made in England. I can't guarantee it for you, but the ones I purchased from this site were made in England. **Q: Are there 6 different patterns? Looks as tho the African Lily is duplicated??!! Was the 6th pattern supposed to be Clematis or Virgin's Bower?** A: Whenever I have purchased Portmeirion Botanic Garden sets, the patterns were 6 different flowers. Though a number of the patterns repeat across items in the setting, ie you might find the daisy on a pasta bowl and on a coffee mug, the items within the 6 piece sets have always been different. Occasionally one of the patterns is retired and a new flower is introduced in the set. For this reason, I can't say what is included in the current set of 6 plates. **Q: Are they all the same flower in this set? Can I choose the ones I want to make up 6?** A: Each plate has a different flower, and you cannot chose the ones you want to make up the 6. But know that the assortment of flowers is part of the appeal of serving with Portmeirion; they look beautiful on the table. **Q: Has anyone had a problem with glaze and/or plates cracking after years of use in microwave?** A: I too have issues with the glaze cracking (crazing) on all plates and bowls. I do not use microwave, just regular use and dishwasher. We were relieved that the plates were made in England! It coordinates well with the same set of pasta bowls that we got with the same flower motif. It also coordinates well with other Botanic Garden collection that we have. We have an extensive collection of Portmeirion Botanic Garden dishes. Be aware that other pieces with the same flower motif may be made in China. We also ordered a covered casserole that was made in China. The color is not white but bone. The letters are all crocked. The casserole is awful.
