## Description

This Greenwich Commerative Grand Complication watch is the ultimate expression of the watchmakers art, featuring a perpetual display for the month, day and date, moon phase display, chime function and alarm.

Review: The bezel is beautifully engraved and shines like any Swiss watch you would ... - Absolutely stunning timepiece. This is truly a Grand Complication with a perpetual calendar, day, date, month, leap year, 24 hour, moonphase, chronograph with tachymetre, 1/4 second timing, first and second place registers, minute repeater and local time. To be honest, to buy any other watch with these functions would cost several thousands so this is an absolute bargain. Added to which, the quality and feel of the watch is phenomenal. Diameter wise, it isn't too big, which adds to the air of class about it. It is very robust. The bezel is beautifully engraved and shines like any Swiss watch you would see in a fancy shop cabinet - it is actually inspired from a similar Accurist grand complication from quarter of a century ago. The metal strap is ion plated and looks very expensive. The sapphire crystal is hypnotic. The matt black face and super-luminescent hands are just perfect. The chronograph hand sweeps beautifully. I got this watch as my mum passed away last year and she bought me an Accurist Grand Complication in the late Eighties, when I was 12. I treasure this watch but it is so precious to me now that I am scared to wear it outside in case I break it. It's been a fine lifetime companion. When I discovered that Accurist made a new Grand Complication that looked very similar, I spent ages trawling websites trying to find one. These models are limited to only 2000 pieces in the world, which makes them even more special. I had originally tried to find the two-tone gold version, which is what my mum had bought me. However, I am extremely happy with the black and silver model as it can be worn anywhere. It is classy and sporty, highly polished and ionised. High contrast hands make for easy reading. I have about 20 watches, a couple of them Swiss, but this watch is easily the most stunning and beautiful and there is obviously a strong emotional connection for me because it truly is a "Commemorative" watch for me and I can carry a reminder of my mum with me every day. Don't hesitate to buy this watch!
Review: A beautiful watch somewhat ruined by the thick engraved bezel - This is a hell of a lot of watch for the money and without a doubt, the best value timepiece I've ever seen. Proper mechanical Grand Complications usually have telephone number price tags whilst battery equivalents are few and far between. That you can buy one which is not only affordable but also looks great and is extremely rare makes this a must have for any decent watch collection. The quartz movement inside the Accurist is a complication shared with a few exclusive Japanese brands (Shellman, Tenshodo) and also with the range-topping Citizen Campanola which costs four figures new. Not only is this a proper Grand Complication with a perpetual calendar up to 2100 showing day, date, month and year (including leap years), but it also boasts a shimmering silver plated moon phase, luminous hands, a minute repeater, 24 hour time, chronograph and alarm. Finishing is exquisite with a highly polished case, domed sapphire crystal and engraved bezel whilst the strap is two tone matt steel that has a comfortable push button butterfly clasp. The minute repeater works great and has a pleasant classy chime so you can tell the time without having to even look at the watch. The moon phase is small but reflects the light beautifully as it is silver coated rather than just painted on. The angular size is also a head turner and gives the watch a dash of sportiness without detracting from the complication. Even the presentation is excellent, the watch comes in a solid wooden box with a commemorative booklet and an outer sleeve to keep everything clean and tidy. Setting up the watch is actually very easy and takes all of five minutes with the assurance that you won't have to adjust it again (save for the time) until the battery needs changing which is about every two-three years depending on usage. However, there are a few niggles that stop this from being a daily wearer. Firstly, the bracelet is fairly small so if you have thick wrists like a lumberjack, this watch won't fit. This is made worse by the rather thick lugs so the watch may not sit very nicely on your wrist. Secondly, the crystal doesn't seem to have any anti-reflective coating so the dial reflects light badly. At an angle, you'll be able to admire the domed crystal but you won't actually be able to see the dial much and it's made worse by the polished case which is a magnet for smudgy fingerprints. I've compared it with my other black dial watches and they're much clearer so I don't know if the anti-reflective coating is not very good or that the watch just doesn't have any at all. Then there are the dials, particularly the date one, which are just too small to be useful for taking an at-a-glance reading. You really have to look hard and focus to see what marker the hand is pointing to which is annoying as I use the date element of a watch frequently. The lume on the hands is a little dim too, certainly not up the standard of other, cheaper watches. And if you're looking for a water resistant watch, avoid this Accurist as it's barely splash proof so even rain or washing hands might render it dead. Worst of all though is the engraving on the bezel. In the picture, it looks like "Greenwich Commemorative" is engraved in silver but the reality is that it's kind of an off-silver bronze hue, certainly not as the picture depicts as blending in with the case. This makes the writing stand out like a sore thumb and it looks cheap. There's also the problem of the engraving attracting dust and dirt so keeping it clean will be a challenge, especially as it's only splash proof. The large letters also mean a much thicker bezel and it would have been a far, far nicer watch if the engraving was smaller, more subtle and didn't shout from the rooftops resulting in a thinner bezel and larger dial. The Accurist Grand Complication is a great watch that you would put in a display box to admire. Wearing it, if you can get it to fit, is much less joyous and practical though which is a real shame as I genuinely think that this is the horological bargain of the century. Ultimately, the only reason it doesn't get the full five stars from me is because of that engraving which somewhat ruins an absolutely beautiful watch. Pros + Genuine Grand Complication movement with perpetual calendar + Silver plated proper moon phase over 29.5 days + Minute repeater with chime + Chronograph and alarm + 24 hour time + Domed sapphire crystal + Highly polished case + Two-tone matt steel bracelet with butterfly clasp + Beautifully finished + Presentation is exquisite Cons - Engraving looks cheap and tacky - Poor quality lume - Crystal is very reflective - Tiny dials make it hard to take readings - Bracelet is fairly small - Barely splash proof - Thick bezel doesn't look nice

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this have luminous hands and numbers? Also, is the actual moon silver plated (shiny) or just a printed image (not shiny)?**
A: The hands are luminous and are stronger and light up longer than my two Swiss watches. The roman numerals are shiny metal applied to the dial. The moon is applied shiny metal against a midnight blue background.

**Q: What are the measurements of the wrist strap?**
A: I don't owns this watch anymore but it will fit an 8 inch wrist but no bigger you can send it to accurate for alteration if you have a bigger wrist or want to remove the links.

**Q: How big is the face on this watch?**
A: The face measures 38mm including the bezel. Not too big and not too small.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beatiful watch
*by J***N on 4 August 2016*

The watch looks wonderful and was quite easy to set up except for the fact that the Moon Phase function did not work. This was very disappointing indeed! As a result, I have had to return the watch. I am really hoping that the replacement works 100%. This is definitely a potential five star product and I would have rated it as such if only ........ Update. The replacement has arrived and everything is working properly. Changed rating to five star.
