I use a 1 gallon mason-type jar. They work great as far as keeping grounds out of the water. The problem I have is not in the bags but in the opening of the jar.Once the bagged grounds have set in the water to make cold brewed coffee, removing the bag is a process. I am unable to just pull the bag out because it has swelled to the size of the jar. The opening is a smaller diameter than the jar itself. Even though it is considered a wide mouth jar, it is not wide enough to easily pull the bags of grounds out.To do that, the opening of the jar would have to be the same diameter as the jar.The bags do fit around the lip of my wide mouth jar perfectly but removing it requires these steps: Empty all the coffee out into another 1 gallon jar. Tip the jar sideways over the sink. Reach in and manipulating the wet bag of grounds through the opening a little at a time, gently tugging this way and that way. When the sack finally comes out it reminds me of that very last push after birth, liquid and a big sloppy mass plops into the sink.I bought another jar (see pic) hoping it will work better as it has a wider opening. (wider than the bag).There is a drawstring on the bag. It doesn't close tight enough to eliminate the possibility of grounds escaping should it emerge completely in the water. With the Mason type jar I was using I left the bag's top folded down over the lip of the jar and loosely put the lid on just so the bag could not sink. I allow some air in while making cold brew to allow gases to escape. (I read that that should be done, who knows)Since the bags are smaller than the new jar's lip, I am going to draw it close and then loop the string around the top of my pineapple handle to keep the bag of grounds from sinking and grounds escaping.I just got this jar so have not tried this yet. In theory, I should be able to pull the soaked bag of grounds out and eliminate pouring coffee into another jar. I will just use one jar to brew and dispense my cold brew since it has a spigot. My other jar did as well but had to take coffee out to remove the bag.I use a single cup pour over mesh filter when I get a cup of coffee as a final straining process but the bags really do keep virtually all grounds out. This step is probably unnecessary.In closing, I have used the same bag now 8 times. It has held up well even though I have pulled and tugged on it removing it from my jar. I do not use soap to wash the bags. They are designated to make coffee so I just rinse out with very hot water and set on top a bottle to dry. Mine has stained a coffee color but that doesn't hurt its functionality. They do not reach all the way to the bottom of a gallon jar but for my use, that is not important. As long as the grounds emerge in the water the coffee will brew. I make a lot at a time. (cold brew will stay in fridge for a couple weeks but mine never lasts that long)I love these bags. 5 stars!!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Works great! *by W***T on Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2019* I tried the cold brew by mixing water and grounds together then pouring the solution over a filter or strainer to try and get the good stuff. Using a filter took FOREVER and was messy, and a strainer always let some grounds through. So, this looked like a good alternative. I ordered it and put the grounds in the bag, put the bag in the water in a pitcher and let it sit overnight in the fridge, then just pulled up the bag and squeezed it with my hands. There are barely any grounds in the mix and that's only because they are so tiny that they are almost impossible to not get, and the coffee is delish. It's super easy to clean up cuz you just take it out and dump the grounds and rinse the bag. I washed the bags in the dishwasher once to sanitize them, but other than that I just rinse it and let it dry. I know they won't last forever but they are doing a great job. I will buy more when these are at the end of their usefulness. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Efficiently holds and strains well-ground coffee *by M***. on Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2020* Impressively holds and filters out even commercially packaged ground coffee for Cold Brews. Even at 24 hours of brewing, my 32oz cold brews are dark and clear when I take out each bag.I'm just not an overall fan of the "post-brewing" clean-up. Once you the coffee grounds are gone they're simple to wash by hand, and also wash well in the dishwasher for a more thorough cleaning whenever desired. But getting rid of the coffee grounds have been messy in my experience, especially if you're mindful of ensuring (or "minimizing" at most) any coffee grounds from going down your kitchen sink.It's easy to imagine gently folding the filled sacks inside out to carefully remove the bulk of the coffee; but the sturdiness of the material and its overall width makes doing so a bit more of a challenge - resulting in coffee grounds inevitably splattering all over to some degree. Coffee grounds have occasionally gotten trapped in the tight corners and side-folds of the sacks, requiring a bit more effort in removing them between washes.I'm still exploring little techniques in smoothly using these "through and through". Overall, it performs well straining/holding any fine-material for brewing.
