Completely unnecessary. I got lucky. Paint quality perfect down to a fine detail. Sturdily mounted on base. Did not arrive in a store-type, clear plastic-fronted "display" box but safely nestled in a pressed cardboard shell inside a printed, windowless box. Great protection.
