In short, it's a pre-wax cleanser formulated to clean, glaze, polish and prepare the paint surface ready for a layer of wax or sealant (it works especially well with Dodo Juice carnauba waxes because ingredients are often shared, but you can use it with ANY wax or sealant, apart from nano-ceramic sealant products). So what's in that little green bottle? Well, micro-abrasives remove mild paint oxidisation, ingrained dirt and light swirl marks. Glaze oils make the surface glossy and smooth - and this may also allow fresh wax to bond effectively. These oils also fill minor wash marring, swirl-marks and other defects, enhancing the paint's appearance. Then there are organic and inorganic cleaning agents to ensure that you're not sealing dirt or grime into the paint underneath your chosen wax or sealant. How do I use it? Lime Prime stays oily for workability but may dry to a buffable haze in hot conditions - it does its work on contact, so apply it, work it into the panel and then remove it with a soft cloth (i.e. there is no need to let it cure or dry to a haze... just apply and then buff soon afterwards). Avoid textured trim but this product is far less dusty than traditional polish products and may be unnoticeable on smooth trim. Can I use Lime Prime with a machine polisher? You betcha. Lime Prime is one of the most workable and pleasant fine cut compounds you can use, and can remove light swirls in soft to medium paint with the right pad/machine/technique. On softer paints, like those of Japanese cars, it could even be used as a 'one step' paint correction product when applied correctly by machine. Note that glaze oils in this product mean that it may not suit degraded/UV-damaged/porous paint if applied by hand. In these cases, only apply as part of a machine polishing process. Not very, in simple terms. But it does take a little understanding, patience and practice. Machine, pad and polish all affect cut, as do the techniques of the user. Look online for 'how to' articles and videos to get a flavour for the process, then start with a soft pad and fine cut compound like Lime Prime. See the Lime Prime difference yourself Here's how to create your own 50/50 - Get some masking tape - detailers use blue 'bodyshop' tape but if you are applying the tape to fully-cured paint, ie original paint on a normal car, for an hour or so, the normal beige tape will be fine. Mask down the middle of a panel. You will be tackling either the left or right hand side only and working up to the masking tape line. - On your chosen side of the panel, use a small amount of Lime Prime with a soft microfibre applicator pad (hand application) or a foam polishing pad by machine. - Work it into the paint under medium pressure for at least 3-5 mins by hand, or 2-3 mins by machine until it seems to have disappeared or been fully worked. For more cut, increase the pressure (harder paints may need this). - Buff with a soft, clean microfibre. - Remove the masking tape line and compare the two sides with a strong light source or torch. Lime Prime is doubly effective Because it both cuts and fills, it physically removes some imperfections, rounds off sharp edges of deeper defects and then fills many of the remaining blemishes with oils to improve the appearance. Some of these oils will 'drop back' i.e. evaporate, but a fresh application of Lime Prime and/or heavier cutting will see further improvements to the finish. It's basically a paint cleaner with very mild abrasives. It isn't really a polish as such, but is great for removing any remnants of previous waxes etc prior to applying fresh protection. This won't replace the other necessary decon/correction steps such as tar removal, fallout/iron removal, claying/polishing etc **Q: Hi, my car has previously been waxed and also had gtech liquid cystal coat, can i apply this directly or do i have to remove all those layers first?** A: This is a polish, so depending on how long it has been, it will probably take off the previous coats - especially spray on coatings. Wax is normally going to be the top layer of protection.
